ABOUT THE INFORMATION

The official Harris County, Texas voter registration roll for January 2022 is the primary source for the statistics that appear in this presentation. The voter registration file is a public record and is subject to public inspection. It is available for a nominal fee of $25.00 at the County’s Election Office.

The number of surname registered voters were estimated by conducting queries on the voter registration file using Census Spanish and Asian surname glossaries. The accuracy of the official registered voter lists and surname glossaries utilized to conduct the queries directly impact the voter registration estimates provided on the spreadsheet. Any variance that is generated by an inexact surname list or incomplete voter registration list is negligible. NOTE: The Asian-surname estimates include the transliterated Chinese-surname “Lee.” According to 2010 Census surname information, 42% of the persons with the surname “Lee” submitting a Census form in 2010 were Asian and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders. Still, the inclusion of “Lee” in the Asian-surname list used to estimate the number of Asian-surname registered voters has little impact on the overall surname percentages. Also, three registered voters were not included in this presentations because of no association with a voting precinct.
