This is a preliminary review of the population estimates for Harris County (TX) Commissioners Court Precincts presented in the Census 2020 Redistricting Data Summary File for the third largest County in the nation. The review includes race ethnicity data summaries for voting precincts in each Commissioners Precinct.
The Census 2020 data was released on August 12, 2021 and can be found at the U.S. Census website. Any discrepancies found on this review are inadvertent errors made by the author.
Note: the category titled “More Than One Race” was created by using the unaccounted subtotal that remained after the “Alone” and “One Race” categories were totaled.
FINDINGS
Race and Ethnicity Changes
- The White population in Harris County Commissioner Precinct 3 is down to 32.8%.
- The White population in Harris County Commissioner Precinct 4 is down to 35%.
- Hispanics/Latinos now account for 41.5% of the population in Commissioners Precinct 1.
- African Americans only account for 33.4% of the population in Commissioners Precinct 1, the African American opportunity political district.
Population going into Reapportionment
- Commissioner Precinct 1 accounts for 24.9% of the County’s population.
- Commissioner Precinct 2 accounts for 22.4% of the County’s population.
- Commissioner Precinct 3 accounts for 26.8% of the County’s population.
- Commissioner Precinct 4 accounts for 25.9% of the County’s population
