This table provides the voter turnout in the November 3, 2020 Election by gender, age group and incorporated and unincorporated areas in Harris County, Texas, the third largest county in the nation. A downloadable version of the table is also provided in excel format, at the provided link.
The provided voter turnout percentages are based on the official records for the presidential election. The analysis only includes data for voters self identifying as a “female” or “male.” These voters comprised 97 percent of the electorate.
NOTE: The terms “female” and “male” are used in this analysis because the words are employed in every step of the voter registration and voting process in Texas. Overall, three-percent of the registered voters on the county’s voter roll do not have a gender identification on record. These registered voter accounted for three-percent of the vote in the 2020 Harris County election.
Principal FINDING for Harris County, TX:
-Women outvoted men by 6 percent in the November 3, 2020 election.
-The younger the voters the greater the voter participation gap among women and men.
-Among women, voter participation was highest (72%) in the unincorporated areas of Harris County.
-Among men, voter participation was also highest (66%) in the unincorporated areas of Harris County.
-Among women, voter participation was lowest (68%) in the City of Houston.
-Among men, voter participation was lowest (62%) in the City of Houston.
-Overall, in Harris County, the average turnout for women was 70 percent; for men, it was 64 percent.
-Voter participation was highest among voters 65 to 79 years old. Incredibly, among these voters, 8 of 10 cast ballots in the 2020 election in Harris County.
